Facebook backtracks on photo ban of plus-size model by Holly Ellyatt

Growing up I was never thin, but as I got older I developed some health issues (not weight related) along with severe anxiety, panic attacks and depression. The cocktail of medications I was on caused my weight to balloon up. I became even more depressed which lead to being less active and a worsening diet. I thought losing weight would solve all of my problems and that I would suddenly be healthy. I tried the gamut of diet techniques and naturally, they didn't work. After getting married I began to embrace my body. My husband is a very active and energetic man and I quickly realized just how constantly sluggish and tired I felt. So I decided to change my diet again but this time the focus was on healthier choices and nutrition instead of calories and weight loss. This has made an incredible difference! It has only been about a week and I am really enjoying myself (shocking!). I do not feel deprived or exhausted. I have begun to feel so much lighter, not in terms of weight but internally. People are not lying when they say eating good foods makes you feel good.
Here are some of the changes I have made and tricks I've incorporated:
1. Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning.
Drinking a glass of room temperature water first thing in the morning helps to wake your body up. I keep mine right on my night stand so I can drink it before getting out of bed. It gives me that energy boost I need to get out of my warm comfy bed!
2. Yogurt with breakfast.
Yogurt is a good source of protein and calcium. It is also great for the digestive system. All of which make yogurt an excellent way to kick start your day!
3. Eating a grapefruit everyday.
Whether its for a snack or part of a meal, I try to eat a grapefruit a day. Why grapefruit? Because it is jam packed with benefits! Grapefruits help support the immune system (lots of vitamin C) and can help burn fat by boosting metabolism. Read more here!
4. Having a salad or smoothie for at least one meal a day.
I make this a set in stone routine because its a sure fire way to get all my fruits and veggies!
5. Drink 64oz of water a day.
This a relatively well known fact. Drinking 64oz of water per day is the best thing you can do for your body. You will see clearer more youthful skin, feel less hungry throughout the day, and can help you lose weight!
6. Add spinach to smoothies.
If you're like me and are a picky eater then you probably don't like the bitter taste vegetables have. So my solution is hide them! The strong flavor from fruit makes it very easy to mask the taste of your chosen veggie. I personally like to add spinach. My husband and I's favorite smoothie is made up of:
-1 bag of frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries)
-two servings of spinach
-a hint of strawberry puree
7. Substitute ground lean turkey or veggie meat for ground beef.
Lean ground turkey or veggie meat are great alternatives to ground beef. They are healthier and have less fat than beef, which can feel less heavy in your stomach. The best part is you don't have to sacrifice the flavor!
8. Use whole grain instead of white bread
Another easy switch. We all know whole grain bread is better for you than white bread. While I still love my white breads, whole grain is definitely more flavorful.
9. Use whole grain or veggie pasta instead of regular.
It amazing to see all the alternative choices we now have for traditional pasta. Whole wheat and veggie pasta is becoming much more popular and big name brands are making it readily available. We all love pasta and now can enjoy a slightly more health conscious version.
10. And most importantly, don't completely cut out junk food.
Depriving yourself of all the foods you love just because they are unhealthy is probably one of the worst things you can do when trying to live a healthier life. There is nothing wrong with having fries now and again (or in my case cinnamon bread with Nutella, yum!), you just need to be mindful of how much. Go have that doughnut, hon.
My changes have not been extreme but they have been life changing. Taking baby steps is key. Even small changes to your lifestyle can have an impact. So go out there and live your best life, you deserve it!
